In other professional roles, he has written primarily in non-fiction and published magazine articles, biographies, law reviews, articles, and book chapters. His current writing interests range from poetry, through fantasy (sword & sorcery, high fantasy, mythic fiction), speculative fiction and alternate history, to mystery (noir and hardboiled), along with some literary non-fiction ideas. Alan and his family split their time between Appalachia and the American West when not traveling elsewhere.
